I've always admired artists and designers who amalgamate a palate of unusual colors and make them “go”. It's my favorite challenge in crafting my own work as well as being submersed in details with a desire to make them “correct”.
With regard to trends, I believe artists should make art for ourselves and love what we do rather than simply chasing the market. I think it's also apparent to our audience through our work when we create authentically.
Perhaps the best lesson I've learned so far as an artist is to disregard much criticism and allow my creative process to breathe. Attempting to appeal to all audiences is impossible. Over time, I've come to understand that art is not merely a product, but a personal statement displayed after much critical thinking.
